Here's the story: This was an office divider that I scavenged from the Institute. The dimensions were such that depending on how it was oriented it was either a little too long and short on top, or too tall and too narrow. So, I got a hacksaw and cut about a third of it off, then fused the two pieces to make a wall of the dimension I needed. Little did I know the interior was made of fiberglass: itchy lung-damaging dust ahoy! I sealed each end of the panels where the fiberglass interior was exposed with multiple layers of duct tape. Then I basically went out and got a bunch of mending plates and some nuts and bolts. I bolted the two sections together using the plates; there's something like 10 plates on each site of the wall holding it together, but even so it still flexes at the join point (the sign here covers up the surgery). The whole contraption was then secured to a (real) wall using L-brackets. My measurements were off (of course) so there's more holes in the wall than necessary. Because the BVMWS is not secured to the ceiling or floor, it also swings back and forth as a single unit - flexing in two dimensions, something no other wall can boast! After I was done with this particular part of the project I spent a lot of time vacuuming. |
